Yeppoon - Capricorn Coast

What a gorgeous bit of coast line it was.  We arrived in time to pick from many site eventually pick one that overlooked the beach and Great Kepple Island.   The weather was fantastic every day that we were at Yeppoon and the kids, Nigel and I really enjoyed our time here.

We spent the first day playing tennis on the beach and riding our bikes along the beach.  That was a bit of fun but a lot of hard work.  We found a crab while out riding and the kids looked at him then decide he need to be released so they took him back to the beach and let him go.

We toured the area the next day.  Firstly we drove north to Byfield National Park.  The drive was very pretty and some of the tracks were a little hairy.  Then we returned via Yeppoon and took the drive down to Emu Park and Kinky Beach.  Both really nice seaside towns but very sleepy.  Not much going on in either.  Yeppoon was by far the pick of the locations on the Capricorn Coast.  We drove back to Yeppoon after enjoying a nice afternoon tea then visited the harbour and drove up a hill into Yeppoon that over looked the town.  It was an amazing view.  You could see all the way over to Rockhampton and back out over the ocean as far as your eye would allow you.  The houses up there must be worth a mint.

Our next day the kids and Nigel spent the day cruising on their bikes from park to park.  Stopping when they felt like it and continuing on when they became a little bored with park.  I had a lovely couple of hour without them.  Reading my book, chatting to travellers in our caravan park and just enjoying the lovely sunshine.

Town of Seventeen Seventy - Agnes Water - Discovery Coast

We decided to visit this area because it was the first landing place of Captain Cook.  We felt it would be a good point of interest for the kids to learn about.  When we arrived they were celebrating the Captain Cook 1770 Festival as our visit to the area coincided with his landing some 241 years earlier.  This was a bonus as we were able to look around a market and see fabulous fireworks.  The kids really enjoyed this.

Firework put on for us on our arrival.  We felt so important!

We toured the area the next day taking in the lookout at Agnes Waters and then drove to the monument for Captain Cooks landing.  The kids then walked on the same stretch of beach the Captain Cook land.  We finished our tour of the area at the Round Hill lookout walk and watch the sunset with many other tourists.  It was a lovely setting and a perfect way to finish the day off.

The next day was a little drizzly so we ventured only a short distance from the park.  We took the 1km walk through the semi rain forest to the beach behind our caravan park.  The beach was empty and the sand dunes had been cut into by rough seas.  Austin spent the whole time doing leaps and sliding down them and having an absolute ball.  The walk back was all up hill so I made it a little bit of a race to see who got back first only to have Austin pip me at the post.  Kaleb biting at my heals and Jordan tripping over a rock and tumbling.  Just not the way to finish a nice walk/run back from the beach.

Hervey Bay - Pialba - Fraser Coast

Hervey Bay was a last minute decision on the road as we were heading in that direction.  I had been talking to Carolyn on the phone as we drove towards this area and once talking to her we made the decision to go.  Their family had enjoyed their stay at Hervey Bay so that was enough to make us have a look.  In the end we could not have been happier.
Our amazing view from our caravan at Pialba Caravan Park

The park where we stay was right next door to a free water park and our caravan was on the front row of the beach side caravan park.  We had an amazing view, a large grass area out the front of us and huge trees that the kids could climb non stop.  The kids really enjoyed themselves here.  They enjoyed the water park that they ventured there a couple of times and they built many fabulous sand castles.

We enjoyed the nice days and relaxed while still being able to see the area.  We did not go to any large attractions in the area but walked along the beach at Torquay (Hervey Bay) and sat on the pier at Scarness.  It was a lovely place to stop and take a deep breath.
