Onslow

Wow it was like walking back in time.  This is sleepy little fishing town.  You could hear the tumble weed blowing down the street from half a km away.  LOL.  Not for long though.  They just announce another off shore gas refinery and the area will soon be inundated with high vis workers.  In my opinion a good thing for the community but the locals are not too happy about it.

We booked into our spot then headed to the information centre.  Sorry we are only open between 10 and 2pm. What the heck.  They are not business hours.  Bloody backward little towns.....  Instead we spent time walking the beach and enjoying the area around the caravan.  We had drinks with Kirsty and Dave(Peg & Silver on the road LOL), who we had previously met at Point Samson.  Nice couple.

Took an early morning stroll.  It is always a nice time of the day to discover the beauty of a place.

Even the birds sat on the car waiting for a wash.
Next morning Austin and I rode up to information centre and collected all that we needed.  Notice a community sign about a car wash and sausage sizzle so I went back and got everyone organised and took our filthy car for them to wash.  The park they were using was very well set up and you can see these towns spend a lot of time keeping their youths busy.  The oval, huge playground, synthetic tennis courts and water park was well keep and full of lots to do.
The kids spent the first half hour in the water park and then had some lunch.  They then headed over to the playground a little wary of the other children playing for some more play while the car finally made it to the front of the queue and was being washed.  The youth group did a great job.  Well almost.  They forgot to wash the roof.  Luckily the chamie guy noticed and climbed up and cleaned it.  I moved the car to the car park and then heard an agonising cry from Austin.  The little local indigenous kids decided they did not like Austin on the play equipment and shoved him off.  As he came down he grated his back on the steel frame work and we then spent the next half and hour in the Onslow hospital having it cleaned and checked.  Now if they were scared of the local before I can't imagine what my kids think now.  Bloody kids!

All bandaged up.

From here we drove out pass the Onslow salt stacks and pier and then head for four mile creek.  The swimming, fishing, crabbing and shelling area.  What a let down.  Not even worth taking a photo.  Our drive continued around the port area then we head back to the caravan park as we had seen most of the sights of Onslow by this time.  Spent some time looking in the rock pools at the beach.  It was an odd day but still very interesting.

On the way out we stopped at the salt pans and looked at the sparkling salt.  It was like seeing snow in the Pilbara.
