Exmouth

Wow.  What a heaven sent place after Onslow.  This place was a hive of energy and plenty of facilities.  Nigel noticed the oil spray back on the caravan again so took the car to a 4x4 place and had it looked at.  Refilled the oil area and then told us that the tyres needed replacing.  Yuck.  Carnarvon is the place we can get them so we have put the spare on the most unroadworthy tyre spot and we will nurse it until we can get there.

We even saw our first bit of rain since Longreach.  Not much but enough.  It actually gave me a chance to do a heap of work on the blog.  As I was so far behind this relief day was perfect.  We did shop and visit town beach where the kids had a ball collecting pebbles and shells.  Jordan found some amazing pink ones.

The next day the sun came out and the day was full of touring.  Firstly we visiting Shothole Canyon.  It was an 11km bumpy road into a pretty valley.  Next was Bundegi Beach.  This included the boat ramp and the beginning of the Ningaloo Reef.  It was a little rough out there but the water was a beautiful turquoise and so crystal clear.  It just makes you want to dive in and float around all day.  We headed for the surf beach where the shipwreck SS Mildura is just off the point.  It went down in a heavy storm and the entire load of live cattle was lost.  Poor moo cows!  We then climbed to the top of the Lighthouse and took in the surrounding area.  The view from up there was amazing.  It was such a clear day you could see for ever.  We even spot several whales frolicking in the ocean.  Our final stop for the day was at the turtle nesting beach.  No action yet but am hoping to find some soon.

We are off to stay for 3 nights in the national park.  Only 70km from Exmouth.
